Isn’t fresh baked bread one of the most amazing smells? I remember walking into my mother-in-law’s house regularly and smelling this bread, just out of the oven. Friends, it was delightful. And so I’m sharing her recipe with you:
Honey Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients
- 5-1/2 C Whole Wheat Flour
- 1 T Yeast
- 1-3/4 C Warm Water
- 3/4 C Liquid Honey
- 1/4 C Butter
- 2 tsp Salt
- 2 Eggs
Instructions
-
Combine 2 cups of flour and the yeast. Set aside.
-
Heat water, honey, butter and salt in a medium saucepan until lukewarm. Add to the flour and yeast mixture.
-
Add eggs, one at a time; beat on low for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl as you go. Beat on high for 3 minutes.
-
Add remaining flour as needed; knead for 6-8 minutes. Let rise until doubled. Punch down and divide into 4 and let rest. Shape into loaves and place in well-greased loaf pans. Let rise until doubled.
-
Bake at 475 degrees F for about 45 minutes. Cover loosely with foil for the last 20 minutes.
Recipe Notes
This will make 4 smaller loaves; if you prefer, you can divide the dough and form into three loaves for larger loaves -- baking time will be the same. Enjoy everyone!
